It uses GLONASS, a global satellite navigation system for built-in GPS as well as SmartTrack to record user activity on the Fitbit app. It’s predecessors were the Fitbit Blaze and Surge and in 2018, Fitbit released the Fitbit Versa along with an update to the Ionic with the Fitbit OS 2.0.
