Why is my iPhone 5S rebooting every few minutes?

Hello there!

I have bought a cheap used iPhone 5S, with a damaged screen and a supposed "dead battery".

I had a spare screen, so I have already replaced that part, but I suspect the dead battery issue is not what it seemed to be. The phone had almost no charge, and rebooted every 4-6 minutes, even when plugged in to a charger. After replacing the battery it continues to restart. Also, the device charges both the old and new battery fine. So I think the device has board level damage, but I don't know what can be the suspect.

Summarized:

phone reboots every 4-6 minutes even plugged in, but charges fine

after reboot the phone shows 1% for a minute or two before figuring out the actual percentage

restores with iTunes no issues whatsoever, can activate fine

problem remains with new dock connector, new battery

no bluescreens, I dont think its long screw damage

connected to a pc, the device does not give any battery cycle or battery life info with both batteries (3utools)

Can this issue be a dead tristar ic problem?

Thank you,

Joseph

Wow. It’s sad to see that this answers page never got the post it deserved.

The usual cause of this is classic pry damage near the battery connector. One or more SMD components right above the battery connector are either damaged or missing. There’s 4 right above that connector so usually one or two are missing.

Those 4 components are responsible for getting information from the battery to the phone.

Without those components the device does not know how much power it can take from the battery so that it doesn’t request more power than it can give.

This occurs usually when a pry tool is used to unplug the battery but was not done carefully.

Probably this caused the problem, I agree.

I recently replaced the battery on my iphone 5s and I think I'm having the same problem too. Is best bet to get a new logic board? I only use the phone for a radar app.

Took me forever to find someone who had the same issue as me

Unlike android, iPhone battery plays a very crucial role in the iPhone. Please let your iPhone charge for 30 mins at first(as suggested by the apple). After one full charge try restoring your device with iTunes (certainly not with 3u tools)

This is useless advice to a post made almost a year ago.

I restored it with iTunes for no improvements. The unit had logic board damage. Got rid of it.
