Sanyo Xacti VPC-X1200 Troubleshooting

The Sanyo VPC-X1200 is a point-and-shoot digital camera with 3x optical zoom and 12mp resolution. Models covered in this guide are the VPC-X1200EX, VPC-X1200, VPC-X1200GX.

when the power button is pressed, the camera does not show any life signs

The battery pack may be dead, inserted incorrectly, contacts on the battery and/or camera may be rusty/dirty/corroded.

The door that covers the battery/memory card may not be closed all the way. Alternatively, the switch that detects door closure may be malfunctioning.

The power LED is on and the lens is functioning, but the display does not function

The display or motherboard may have failed, requiring replacement of the respective component. Be sure that the camera is actually receiving power and isn't simply off, or that the display is switched off.

The LCD display is malfunctioning and needs to be replaced.

The flash is turned on and should fire when a picture is taken, but does not

The battery is not fully charged and cannot charge up the flash.

The flash bulb can burn out and needs to be replaced.

The error message "System Error" is displayed on the LCD continuously.

Try removing and reinserting the battery and removing and reinserting the memory card. If this does not resolve the problem, the motherboard will need to be replaced.

Using the AC adapter, the battery will not charge

The battery could be experiencing a memory effect, causing it not to charge. It could also be past it's useful life, and need to be replaced.

Be sure that the AC adapter is plugged into a functional outlet at the correct voltage. Use a multimeter to test the output voltage of the AC adapter. If there is no voltage, or it is lower than spec, the adapter needs to be replaced.

If the plug from the wall adapter does not fit snugly into the DC jack in the camera, it may need to be replaced to ensure it makes consistent contact. Also, try cleaning the battery and the charger itself with a dry cloth. This can remove any debris blocking the connection.
