Computer Will Not Turn On
The laptop will not respond or show any sign of turning on.
Laptop is Not Charged
Make sure the power adapter has been plugged in and check that the laptop is fully charged. Look to see if the indicator light on the adapter is on.
Faulty Power Adapter
Check that the power adapter is plugged in. If so, check if the indicator light on the adapter is on. If the adapter is plugged in and the indicator light does not turn on, the adapter may be defective. Consider buying a replacement power adapter.
Faulty Battery
If the laptop only turns on when the power adapter is plugged in regardless of charging time, then the battery is faulty. Use this guide to replace the battery.
Laptop Experiencing Flickers on Screen
The screen flickers continuously or occasionally while the laptop is on.
Faulty Battery Connection
If the screen is flickering, there may be a faulty battery connection. First, power off the laptop. Remove the battery and place it back in securely. Then, power on the laptop. If the issue persists, consider replacing the battery.
Unoptimized Screen Resolution
The laptop may not be running at the optimal screen resolution. Check by right-clicking on the desktop screen and select “screen resolution”. Then select the optimal resolution in the drop-down menu for the laptop, 3200 x 1800.
Faulty or Loose Cables
If the laptop's screen is flickering, faulty or loose cables may be the cause. First, ensure that the video and monitor power cables are screwed in tightly. If the problem persists, replacement cables may need to be purchased.
Laptop's Sound Quality Is Impaired
The laptop may be producing a damaged or inaudible sound. At times no sound may be coming from the laptop at all.
Faulty Driver
A faulty sound card may be the cause of a laptop’s sound quality diminishing. There is most likely a sound card issue if plugged in headphones are experiencing poor sound quality. The drivers of the sound card may not be the correct or updated versions. Try reinstalling the drivers by setting Windows Update to automatically download and install recommended updates.
Damaged Speakers
The laptop’s speakers are damaged if plugged in headphones are functioning properly but the internal speakers are not. Refer to this guide for assistance in replacing the speakers.
Laptop Does Not Respond to Pressing Keys
Laptop’s keyboard has unresponsive keys.
Laptop is Unresponsive to Keys
Something beneath the laptop key may be obstructing it and causing unresponsive keys. Remove the key to check for this issue and clean the keys. After cleaning the area, snap the key back into place. For further assistance, refer to this guide.
Keys Visibly Damaged
Visibly damaged keys may be causing unresponsiveness. Refer to this guide to remove and replace them.
Laptop Experiencing Lag
Overall response from the laptop is slow or unresponsive.
Overheating
Overheating may be the cause of lag. Make sure the laptop is pulling in a sufficient amount of air through the vents. Fan ports may need cleaning if fans cannot be heard. Purchase a can of computer duster and use it to clean out any debris in the fan ports. For further cleaning, learn how to take out the internal fan ports using this guide.
SSD Replacement
If the laptop is experiencing lag, try replacing the SSD. Refer to this guide for assistance.
Laptop Experiencing Power Loss
Unexpected loss of power.
Overheating
Overheating may be the cause of unexpected power loss. Power down the laptop and let it cool down. Try cleaning the fan ports as another way to resolve this issue.
Faulty Power Cord
A faulty power cord which does not effectively charge the laptop may be causing an unexpected power loss. Samsung power cables are fairly affordable and can be purchased to replace a suspected faulty power cord.
Faulty Battery
An unexpected loss of power may be the result of the laptop’s battery capacity diminishing over time. The battery should be replaced if the issue persists.
Laptop Touchpad Not Responding
Touchpad response is slower than expected or not responding to touch.
Faulty Power Connection
The AC adapter may not be properly connected if experiencing touchpad issues. Purchasing a cheap power conditioner to put inline with the adapter may resolve the issue.
