Laptop won't charge
When the charging cable is plugged into the charging port on the laptop, no indication of charging is visible, and the laptop won't hold a charge.
Loose connection
When you plug in the adapter cable to the charging brick or the adapter brick is the connection loose--does it move around in the socket? Make sure all connections are well connected.
Wall outlet breaker is tripped (if applicable)
If your wall outlet is a “GFCI Outlet” (has 2 small buttons labeled “RESET” and “TEST”), push the “RESET” button. A small green light should glow at one of the corners indicating that the outlet is functioning properly.
Wall outlet is non-functional
Sometimes outlets stop working. To be sure the outlet isn't faulty, try a different outlet.
Frayed cable
Check the full length of the cable and look to make sure there are no exposed wires or damaged protective rubber. A frayed cable can cause shorts in the adapter brick.
- If the frayed part is on the portion of the cable before the adapter brick, disconnect it and take note of what the plug looks like so when replacing it you know which to order.
- If the frayed part is on the portion of the cable after the adapter brick, you’d have to replace the entire it by noting the model number on the brick. If not possible, using the computer’s model number should do the trick.
Faulty Battery
If laptop loses charge far too quickly (to calculate if your battery is losing charge too quickly, look for the battery life spec off the manufacturer’s website), or if the laptop only stays on while plugged in to the charger, replace the battery using this guide.
Burned adapter brick
If you checked everything aforementioned, on your power adapter brick, look for what the adapter should be outputting and a small symbol that shows which part of the plug is positive and which is negative. Plug in the adapter to functioning outlet and with a multimeter set to DC Volt (usually a capital ‘v’ with a bar and three dots above it), check if it is outputting what it should by touching the positive part of the plug with the red probe and the negative one with the black probe. If it doesn’t, your adapter is burned and it needs replacing. [enlace de guía no válido]
Broken charging port
If you see the right amount of voltage on the multimeter’s display in the previous part, you have a broken charging port in need of replacing. [enlace de guía no válido]
The screen is black or unresponsive
When the laptop is turned on, the screen remains black and unresponsive.
Faulty LCD
If your laptop has an issue with the LCD, the screen will be dim and barely visible. The only solutions are to replace the screen or by a new laptop.
Laptop is overheated
Overheating is caused by debris building up on the fan, vents, and heat sink. If the laptop is overheated, it might turn on, but the display will remain black. You can remove the build up by spraying compressed air through the vents and fan. This will allow your laptop to cool down.
Damaged graphics card
To determine if the issue is a damaged or faulty graphics card, connect your laptop to an external monitor. If nothing shows up on the external screen then the issue is with the graphics card. Remove and replace the graphics card using this guide to solve this problem.
Unresponsive touchpad
When the laptop is turned on, the cursor will not respond to any motion done on the touchpad.
Unresponsive operating system
If the operating system is not responding, then the computer will be frozen. If the computer is frozen, it will not respond to anything, including the touchpad. To fix this, simply restart your laptop.
External devices
Some external devices, such as a mouse, disable the touchpad when they connect to the laptop. By shutting down your laptop and disconnecting any external devices, you can see if the external device is functional. After doing this turn your laptop back on and see if the touchpad works. If it does, then the issue was with an external device.
Defective hardware
If the operating system is functioning and no external devices have disabled, then the touchpad's hardware could be corrupt. To fix this, you would either have to remove the faulty hardware and buy all new parts for the touchpad to replace it yourself or you would have to take it to a repair shop and have it replaced. If it is deemed unfixable you could connect a mouse to use instead of the touchpad.
Unresponsive keyboard
When the laptop is turned on the keyboard is disabled and unresponsive.
Accumulation of dust/dirt on keys
If certain keys are not working properly or are slowly becoming unresponsive, then dust can be a reason behind that failure. Turn the keyboard upside down to release the dust off from the keyboard. If that does not work, then buy a jet spray to get the job done for the same issue.
Operating system malfunction
Every system has a set of operating systems on which the keyboard layout depends . If you are tapping a particular key and ending up getting the totally opposite letter on screen then the system is might be using the different keyboard layout possibly. You can change the keyboard layout as per your choice by heading towards control panel > keyboard settings.
