Charge your PadFone with a computer or power outlet. If the PadFone doesn't accept a charge then try using a different charging cord. If the PadFone still doesn't turn on then this might indicate a bad battery. Replace if necessary.

In rare occasions the screen might not respond because the proximity sensor is stuck in the active position. This can be solved by restarting the PadFone. Hold down the power button for about 10 seconds to restart the PadFone. After the PadFone restarts, the screen should turn on with the proximity sensor restarted.

Check for any damages or cracks as it might attribute to the screen not working. Check for any noise when you turn on or off the PadFone. If the PadFone make any noise and the screen is still black then a bad screen might be the cause. The screen would have to be replaced if this occurs.

If there is no noise then this might indicate a different problem.

If all else fails then you might have a bad motherboard. Replacing the motherboard should be the last option as it probably more expensive and more difficult to replace. Try all of the above solutions before replacing the motherboard.

Check the USB cable for damage or dirt, especially at the ends. Then, try using the wall charger as it provides greater power than the computer USB.

If the charger or USB cord are not properly connected to the PadFone, it will not charge. Securely connect the PadFone to the charger and make sure that the charger is plugged into the outlet. If the problem persists a new charger might be needed.

Inspect the dock connector at the bottom of the PadFone for damage or dirt. Carefully, try cleaning the dock connector with a soft toothbrush or tooth pick. If the dock connector is broken, you will have to replace it.

Cannot make phone calls or connect to the internet.

In most cases, moving to a different physical location will increase cellular reception. If this doesn’t work then try restarting your PadFone.

If the above step doesn’t work then your PadFone might have a bad antenna. The antenna is located inside the PadFone and should be disassembled and inspected. Check for any loose wiring to the antenna and any sign of degradation. Replace if necessary.

The PadFone does not respond to touch or button presses.

  1. Hold the power button down until the phone vibrates (about 10 seconds).
  2. Release the power button and the phone will reboot.

As a warning, this should be done as a last resort as it will restore the phone to its original factory settings and all user data will be wiped.

Steps to perform a hard reset:

  1. Fully charge the phone before proceeding.
  2. Turn off the phone by holding down the Power button for a few seconds.
  3. After the phone is off, immediately press and hold the Volume Down button then press the Power button. Hold both buttons down for a few seconds.
  4. The screen will go black and a recovery menu should appear on the screen after a few seconds.
  5. Release the Power button first, then the Volume button to stay in the menu.
  6. Use the Volume Up and Volume Down buttons to navigate to “Enter recovery mode”. Use the Power button to select.
  7. Again use the Volume Up and Volume Down buttons to navigate to “wipe data/factory reset” and use the Power button to select the option.
  8. Wait for the process to complete without interruption. If you interrupt the process you may brick your phone!
  9. The phone should start up as normal when the process is over.
  10. If the phone is still unresponsive, the issue may be due to a hardware failure.

Little to no sound is heard when media is played

If audio is not emitted from your PadFone’s speaker when it should such as watching a video, then verify that the volume is not turned down or on mute. To remedy this, go into settings. Select the option ‘Sound’ followed by ‘Volumes’. Check to ensure that all four volumes are off or on according to your preference.

If this does not solve the issue, try restarting the phone. If the speaker was previously working, it is possible that a software update may have contributed to the problem. If it is not a software problem, the speaker should then be replaced.

If the sound is not clear or the volume seems lower than normal, check the speaker for dust or dirt. Pockets are an excellent source of debris, which can build up on the speaker cover. Clean this using a cotton swab.

If the sound cuts in and out, it could be a sign of a bad reception. However, upon moving to an area with a strong wireless signal, if the problem persists the wired connection to the speaker could be weak and shorting out. This connection should be repaired.

If the audio plays through the phone’s main speaker, but does not play through headphones, check to ensure the headphones are working properly by plugging them into another phone or device. Once the headphones are verified to be working correctly, go into settings and select the option ‘Sound’ followed by ‘Volumes’. Check to ensure that all four volumes are off or on according to your preference. If the headphones were working previously, then the issue could be related to a software update. However, if not, the problem likely lies within the headphone jack itself. Spin the headphone plug to see if any sound returns. Afterwards, unplug the headphones and clean the phone’s headphone jack with either some compressed air or a cotton swab to clear out any debris that may have accumulated. If debris has made its way into this jack it could hinder the connection between the plug and the jack. If this does not resolve the matter, the headphone jack should be replaced.
