Honestly, if the sim card has melted into the phone you may just be better off replacing it. However, if you or your friend want to try to repair it then I suggest watching some videos by iPad Rehab on Youtube and getting a feel for how water damage repairs are done. Here is a great video about water damage repair from iPad Rehab: Youtube Video
I have seen this quite often. What I do is plug the drive into ubuntu and copy the files to an external. You have to run the command: 'gksu nautilus' to be able to access the files due to permissions.
sounds like you broke your proximity sensor flex cable. its the one with the camera on it. you can find them on ebay. just make sure u get the one with both the camera and prox sensor.
this is what i do and it works very well. try to put a small amount of superglue on the broken end and stick it back in your phone. hold it and let it dry then try to pull it out. if that doesnt work then take a paperclip straighten the end of it. then hold a lighter underneath it till it is red hot. then stick it in your phone jack and it will melt the plastic and bond to the broken headphone piece so you can pull it out. this method works for me very well
Warning: you do not need to do this if the camera lens is just scratched! You can replace the outer lens without having to remove the screen or even take the back off. Just use tweezers to remove the lens and then put the new one on. That simple. Hope this helps somebody!
