What a great tutorial - that pic of the retaining clips was especially helpful. Opening the iPod is 95% of the work when replacing the battery - the actual replacement is so easy, a 3rd grader could do it. Some words of advice for anyone attempting this project:
Plastic tools you may receive with your replacement battery will be useless. Buy a metal iPod opening tool, or find something small and thin around the house - a flathead screwdriver or metal cuticle pusher would work finely (the latter of which I used to open mine).
It’s easy to crack the front case when opening your iPod. I didn’t mind since my iPod is already so beat up, but unless you want unsightly cracks in your front panel, take care.
It’s also easy to bend the metal back casing. I bent it around the charging port and while the damage is negligible, it’s still something to watch out for.
Additionally, I feel that disconnecting the headphone cable is unnecessary. It’s very easy to work around, and doesn’t inhibit you from opening up the iPod fully.
