I’m a Biomedical Engineering student at the University of Memphis (UofM) in Memphis, TN. I love Biomedical Engineering; at times, it’s a perfect blend of biology and math. I hope to one day use the knowledge and skills I have obtained to better the lives of LGBTQ+ individuals in a clinical field sense.

Through my time at the UofM, I have obtained experience in lab protocols and cleanliness; it was in this lab that I served as an undergraduate research assistant and took the opportunity to learn and get published as an assistant in an article in the Polymers journal. I’ve taken a broad range of classes outside of my general education requirements that have given me a well-rounded college experience (from Mechanical to Electrical, Psychological to Chemical, Mathematical to Economical).

Some of my proudest moments come from serving on the board of Stonewall Tigers Gender and Sexuality Alliance at the UofM. I was able to, almost single-handedly, spearhead the annual event of Stonewall Ball, an event that celebrated young queer college students and community members. Through surveys, it was found that this event was the most memorable, impactful, and affirming event that the organization had thrown.

I’ve always loved learning as much as possible. I have historically gained knowledge for academic applications. However, in recent years, I have wanted more and more to gain practical knowledge.

It all started when my roommate told my blinker wasn’t working. Now, this would usually be a “call dad” problem, but I didn’t have time for that between school and work, so I did a quick google search and found out that it is quite simple to change bulbs in your car lights. That made me wonder how many other things in my life have I thrown away or paid to get fixed that was as easy as changing a taillight. I don’t have much experience in repairing or analyzing complex mechanics or electronics, but boy, do I look forward to it!
