If the LED light goes away as soon as you plug the Xbox, it's because the power dies down. This means the DC power is insufficient. It could be due to power conversion failure or that there is a bad connection from the wall outlet to the power brick. I've had this type of failure and the starting cause was the three-prong AC cable to the power brick connection was loose.. 1. pressing harder on it helped.. 2. later I had to replace the cable for one with a longer connector, 3. and later the power brick failed. So either of these reasons could apply in your case. In my case, the power brick was a cheap one and the result was understandable but an Xbox shouldn't have that issue. If you never had the issue before of it didn't give any sort of issue, try 1 and 2. But if the issue has happened before, the power brick may be due for replacement.
