Mi Problema

The OEM battery on my iPhone 6 was not sustaining the same battery life it once did. Following the recent Apple news indicating that older batteries with degraded performance cannot run the iPhone at peak operating conditions, I decided to just replace the battery. Battery Life app was showing that current capacity was only capable of around 80%.

Mi Solucion

I thought about bringing it to the Apple store to have them just replace the battery. But then I thought about the process of making an appointment, the wait, how long is it going to take....nope, I'll just do it myself. Glad, I did. The repair was easy. I didn't even need to fully disconnect the display. I just watched the video and followed the guide; step by step. Wasn't hard to replace, went smooth.

Removing the adhesive strips is the hardest part. Just make sure to first pull the tabs out straight, keep the tension firm and go slow. Make sure to read through user comments/advice before starting the repair to see where other people may have been tripped up on. Also, you may want to follow the battery calibration instructions. In my case, calibrating the battery after the initial installation seemed to be a good idea. Initial Battery Life test right after install was showing 92% capable capacity. After calibration, tests were showing 99%.

iPhone 5 would not startup at all. Nothing but a battery icon and no manner of searching could locate a real fix so it was time to see about either upgrading or replacing the battery. Sorry, did not get any pics to upload.

Mi Solucion

Followed all the steps in the guide as laid out and the replacement went surprisingly easy. The hardest part was getting the battery separated from the adhesive but after that, the rest of the install went fine.

I tried to insert the battery and then connect it but that would not go well, so I connected it and then inserted the battery into position to get it installed and working.

The Battery died on my 13 year old's iphone 6. The thought of going to the mall an hour and a half away and waiting in the apple store prompted me to try this. We couldn't be happier with the results

The repair went off without a hitch. We heated the phone a little ahead of time, and it popped right open. We did not remove the screen, as the 2 of us worked together while one held the phone down, the other worked on it. We kept it propped up on the box with a rubber band. The adhesive strips came right off, probably because we warmed it first, and the battery came right out. Everything went back together great, and he is enjoying his phone again

The screen doesn't need to be removed if you're careful and can get the adhesive strips out

Mi Problema

Original lcd screen developed a black strip down the middle.

Mi Solucion

Repair went well except in the instructions it was specified to use a 6.5 torque to remove hinge screws when a 6 is actually required. Luckily a 6.5 doesn’t exists!

Mi Consejo

Take your time and don’t rush your repair. When using the heat gun to remove glass gradually test it frequently to see if adhesive is loosened when prying up.

Mi Problema

Initially my wife couldn't charge her phone and after trying multiple cables it became clear the issue was the phone itself, so I purchased the replacement assembly.

Mi Solucion

This phone had the smallest components I have ever worked with. After putting in the assembly we found that the phone charged fine but the mic wasn't working correctly. There's a piece attached to the original assembly's microphone that needed transplanting, so I'm glad I didn't throw anything away. After that my thumb-plagued meat hands broke the wifi antenna connector, so I took the one off the prior assembly and spliced the wires together. Now the phone keeps losing cell connection, which is odd since I never tinkered with the top side of the phone, though now I must to try fixing it further.

It's been three days and many hours prying into this phone again and again, I've seen more of it than my wife so far this week. This latest issue of poor cell connection isn't as straight forward as the other issues I fixed, although I can be sure it isn't software based I'll have much more prying to go before it's fixed, if it can be.

Next time we'll stick with Android.

Mi Problema

My wife's best friend has an iphone 6... After 2+ years, she would charge it for the night and when she woke up, battery displayed 100%. 12 minutes later, it would shut off. If she didn't use it at all, it would last 30 minutes. She constantly had to keep a large external battery pack with her to keep it from dying. I've used iFixit for many repairs in the past and told her that I could put a new battery in it for a lot less than buying a new phone... or even a lot less than having Apple to the repair. I ordered the battery, she stopped by the day after it arrived and I installed it in about 15 minutes. It would have only been 5 - 7 minutes but I needed to find some way to tape the battery down (forgot to order replacement tape strips). Anyway, she is now able to go hours without having to charge the battery. On really heavy use, she can still kill it in about 2 hours... with limited use, 6-12 hours... sooooooo much better than 12 minutes of limited use.

Easy. The video on youtube was easy to follow and as long as you have the correct tools, it was a snap. It's literally about a 5 minute job if you have everything right there. It took me 15 cause I had to look for replacement adhesive.

DIY is so much more cost effective and can be easy with the correct knowledge and video demonstrations. iFixit is amazing.

Mi Problema

The battery life of my phone was poor, maybe 36 hours if I didn't use the phone at all.

Mi Solucion

It wasn't hard at all, getting the stock battery out was a little difficult since there was some type of adhesive holding it to the phone chassis.

Mi Consejo

I used a hose removal tool for cars to get underneath the stock battery to break it loose from the adhesive. And be careful with the two screws that hold the terminal cover on, they are very small.
