Mi Problema

20" iMac EMC 2210: Overheating power supply caused a slight discoloration of the LCD screen on the corner in front of the power supply. It was also causing intermittent short term cut off of power which caused problems with the Hard Drive, That was the reason it was brought in for service.

Mi SoluciĆ³n

Used the iFixit repair guide to replace the Power supply, pulled the drive and using an external dock from shop computer recovered data. The drive also had bad blocks. Installed new drive in computer and transferred all recovered data to new drive. Reassembled computer and tested, All OK.

Mi Consejo

The iFixit repair guides are a great help to independent repair shops. After 28 years in the Navy, I Ran the repair shop for an Apple Dealer in Portland Maine for 18 years and I have been repairing Mac's since 1984. I am now retired but still working out my house in Bath Maine since 1998. As new models are introduced, I no longer have Apple resources for information and relay on other sources (iFixit for one) . The repaired Mac is gone now and I neglected to photograph it. I am 81 and live 40 miles from the nearest Apple store, but still enjoying working from home with old and new customers and tearing into the Mac's to find and solve problems.
