Mi Problema

My old iPod 3G-10 GB from 2002 was having problems with the battery... Couldn't keep the charge more than an hour when using, and was running low in less than a day when idle. I decided to try to change the battery, because it was still perfectly functional otherwise and still a very good MP3 player that fits my needs.

Mi SoluciĆ³n

Smooth repair! I received the new batt (7 days after the order, in Switzerland!), printed the installation guide, and started: opened the iPod with the special tool (moderately easy), dismounted the various elements (easy), replaced the batt (easy), and remounted everything (easy). 15 minutes maximum, and now my old friend is like new again! Very good new batt indeed.

Mi Consejo

Two things:

- my old batt was kind of "sticky"... I tried to gently wipe this "grease" away from the rubber cushion around the harddisk. Hope it wasn't too poisonous ;-)

- Maybe related to the above: because my old batt couldn't keep the charge, my iPod spent the last 12 months or so constantly connected to the power cable in my living room. I did notice sometimes that it was sligthly warm... but didn't care. Now I think that the permanent heat might have harmed some internal parts (like melted some rubber?). So my advice: change the batt when loosing charge, don't wait! It's too cheap and too easy to hesitate!
