Late 2006 MBP HDD Upgrade and SuperDrive Inspection

avianwashington -

Mi Problema

The originally installed hard drive was the Seagate Momentus 160GB/5400RPM, not enough offering to satisfy my need for speed. Hence, I researched several advice websites on replacing and/or upgrading the MBP HDD and ifixit seemed most practical - recommending not only how to exchange it in a step-by-step sequence - but making the right tools available (the Spudger and T6 Torx Screwdriver). The ifixit team builds courage in the inherently weak so they can mount up with the ability of skilled technician. This past weekend, I was that skilled technician, not some frightened novice who opened the case of a laptop for the first time only to hurriedly close it back as if just that action might have caused me to break something!

My MBP is running fine now. Thanks to the ifixit support team and the right tools for the task, I have a new Seagate Momentous with a 500GB HDD running at 7200RPMs and a RAM upgrade, all for as little as $43.00 - the SuperDrive issue is a long-standing Apple issue that everyone else is experiencing and there's no repairs for that problem... .

However, because of my newfound ifixit bravery, I've decided to replace the optical drive altogether and replace it with a second hard drive of the same type mentioned above.

Ifixit. Youfixit.
