Mi Problema

I work at a Computer repair shop and occasionally we'll get asked to do iPhone, iPad repairs, most times the customer decides to replace, sometimes they go ahead with repairs due to their conscience (why throw out something that works perfectly well because of a cracked digitizer?). This customer was the latter. So never having done anything but an iPhone 4 LCD assembly replacement, I told him I'd give it a go.

Mi SoluciĆ³n

All said, it took about 2 hours and came out beautifully. I do wish I'd sprung for an iOpener but the process went smoothly with just a high wattage hair dryer. If it weren't for iFixit's step-by-step guides, it would have taken hours just to figure out how to remove the screen. iPad 2's are held together primarily by tape, which is almost unbelievable considering Apple's engineering wet dream product line. But this makes repair on these nearly impossible for anyone with a budget, or who has to pay someone else to do it. The "tape" is some industrial grade stuff! Almost an hour of the total repair time was due to cleaning of the remainder adhesive snot to get a clean surface for the new tape.

Mi Consejo

Don't bother with isopropyl alcohol on the adhesive snot left behind until you've scraped most of it off, it really only loosens it at the point of contact, it does not dissolve the adhesive. Lighter fluid seems to work a little better for dissolving, but it is much messier! in the end a flat edged solder scraper blade worked well with the right angle and downward force. Other Than that, follow the guides closely and you'll be fine!
