Iphone 4 lock/sleep button was stuck

I could not turn my phone on and off and needed the top lock button for this.

Not well. All the parts were used effectively, and the description and instructions were very well done. The problem turned out to not be a defect in the button itself but the entire mechanism. This mechanism is not sold on ifixit.com--it is a manufacterer defect and the only solution appears to be a new phone (unless ifixit.com starts carrying this piece).

I ended up having to cut a small piece of very thin scrap metal and place in between the lock button and the underlying mechanism to enhance the "push." Luckily this worked or else the entire job would have been for nothing. My advice to others who have a lock/sleep button that is stuck in their iphone would be to get a new phone. There is no standard fix for this. Replacing the button is not the solution. My "MacGyver" type fix-it is temporary and shady. It works for now but this is clearly not the solution for a defect in the apple iphone.
