My son's Xbox 360 after about five years of use developed the Red Ring of Death. I searched the internet to see whether or not it was worth trying to repair the Xbox. The fix on ifixit.com looked pretty straight forward, if a bit tedious, so I decided to try it.

The instructions were fine. I had purchased the Xbox 360 Red Ring of Death Fix Kit and followed the online instructions without any problems. I also decided to reflow the motherboard, while I had it out of the case. I must admit that I was very skeptical of the reflowing process. I was worried that a number of the critical chip would get overheated in the process but that doesn't seem to have happened.

Pay attention to the way the Xbox is oriented in the photos. They will frequently turn the whole thing 180 degrees between one frame and the next. Take your time and keep track of the parts.
