No Fixing going on, just an upgrade.
Mi Solución
Thanks to the Ifixit toolkit dual hard drive upgrade kit - within minutes, I had stripped my mac mini, placed in a primary SSD and a secondary 1Tb HDD - Put everything back together, turned it on, and voila, instant faster upgraded storage.
Mi Consejo
One word of caution, the helpful video didn't seem to mention the metal retaining clip for the power supply that was present in my mac mini, be very careful with this part. :-D
