Replaced SSD on Macbook Air A1237 (Early 2008 model)

spanky762 -

Mi Problema

Original 64 gig drive died without warning. Geniuses wanted $290 to put in a replacement 80 gig HDD. I bought the Spudger, 54 Bit Driver Kit, and a 120 Gig SSD for less than $250 total. (Yay SSD!)

Mi Solución

I followed the iFixIt video ( Sustitución del disco duro del MacBook Air modelos A1237 y A1304 ) and everything worked just fine. The only problem was that my original drive had some additional anti-vibration foam glued to it -I managed to remove it by using the edge of the spudger to scrape away the glue. The video was great, and after reassembly I was able to install OSX and recover all my data from Time Machine (Hooray Time Machine!)

Mi Consejo

Watch the video a few times, and pay attention to where the "odd" size screws go. There is one special long one for the battery, and 2 long ones for the case itself. Be very careful with the connectors, they are quite delicate. Having the right tools made this job a snap -the 54 bit driver kit is really, really nice and well worth the price. Sorry, I forgot to take photos.
