Mi Problema
After about 3 years of moderate use of PS3 I ran into ylod. I wanted to replace it with a newer PS3. But I did notice the rumors on the release of PS4 sometime soon.
Hence I thought I could wait for the new one while repairing my current one.
Mi SoluciĆ³n
It took me two shots to get my PS3 to work.
Attempt 1: Figured out the dis-assembly. Re-soldered (a.k.a) heated up the CPU & GPU soldering.
Attempt 2: Quick dis-assembly. Warmed up the whole PCB. Heated up all parts of the circuit for about 10-20 secs on each section. Heated up CPU & GPU for about 50 seconds each. --- This has got back my PS3 working!
Mi Consejo
1. The heat gun (shipped by ifixit) when used would smoke a little bit after use. Don't worry it's not fried. In fact, it's working great!
2. Make sure to use the heat gun longer than recommended on ifixit video as I got it working on the second attempt (BTW, mine is a 40 Gig PS3)
3. The toolkit is very handy and is good enough for my PS3 / PC tweaks.
