my old roommate left an older xbox 360 that got the red ring. We sold all we could off of it so he could get some money out of it. I came across this page out of curiosity and was like wow step by step instructions. pretty neat!! Then the geek in me decided months later hey what do I have to lose! I just love ripping things open to see what makes them tick.

The repair went fairly well. It took me quite awhile and I had a few nerve wracking moments because my screw driver slipped when trying to take off the CPU and i scratched the board slightly. I was like DANG!! but the scratches weren't enough to terminate the board. I fired it up and got an error message. So I was determined and looked up a remedy which involved plugging av cable in as I fired it up and I got past the error message!! From there I updated the software and played a game to test it and it works. Now the fun part is I get to trim it out with a new face plate, hard drive and power adapter. You can piece it out and find parts pretty cheap. Pretty cool getting an xbox 360 for $30 but it will require about another 70-80 bucks to get it up to par with accessories.

yeah please wait to get the dang tool to open up the case or else you can get the housing a bit gnarly and dented. I had a blast with this project. Oh one other thing thermal grease is a FREAKING MESS!!! I used a plastic bag on my finger to spread it on the processor but still managed to get it everywhere!! hahaha
