smcFanControl showed 100 degrees C (boiling point) and fan speed 0 rpm! What to do? Turn the Macbook upside down and boil some water, or jump on iFixit.com and get a new fan? Kettle boils water but it's web browser can make you steam. Better to fix the fan.
Got the fan in 16 hours from ordering, followed the instructions online, and was up and running in no time. Sit back and relax with a cup of coffee.
1. When you remove the screws from the Macbook, lay them out on the work surface in a pattern that helps you remember where they belong, since the screws are not all the same.
2. Use a vacuum cleaner to suck out the lint from the fan but move the Macbook to another place so you don't have to open the vacuum bag to find those pesky screws you laid out on the table. (I didn't make that mistake, but was about to do so.)
