Mi Problema

My MacBook Santa Rosa was heating and the noise of the fan was too loud.

Mi SoluciĆ³n

I've change thermal paste and fan with a new one. The fan replacement wasn't necessary, the old one was in good shape. The thermal paste replacement has reduced the heating.

Mi Consejo

Do not replace the fan heaven if you think your MacBook make too much noise. Just replace thermal paste, dismount and clean your fan, remove dust as much as you can.

Indeed, thoroughly cleaning off the dust (I used a 10 Bar air compressor) and refreshing the thermal paste was enough for a satisfactory result. Behind the fan is a heatsink that collects a considerable amount of dust over the years (especially if you have cats).

I was forced not to replace the fan because I made the mistake of ordering the wrong one (Now I know that iFixit calls the Late 2007 MacBook a Santa Rosa and Apple didn't make it any easier by calling a whole bunch Model A1181). I should have paid more attention on that, the blame is all on me.
