Difficult

Mi Problema

I wanted a SSD as a OS X system drive, and Apple's offerings were overpriced and underperforming. The solution was to buy a dual harddrive kit from iFixit, a Intel 520 128 GB SSD, and do the job myself.

Mi Solución

Took longer than expected but went smoothly. I now have a screaming fast OS X system. Thanks iFixit! :)

The SATA cable is a bit more difficult to place properly than the guide indicated due to it's stiffness. I was also a bit confused at times as the pictures and instructions in the guide doesn't always clearly state how to remove and/or position components, especially the PSU and mainboard.

Mi Consejo

Take your time with this install and stay calm. The "hard" rating is no joke and there are many steps until you reach the goal. The inside of an iMac is very cramped and there are lots of fragile connectors and components. When the iMac is in its most disassembled state is a good time to clean out dust with compressed air. The guide stresses the importance of cleaning the LCD panel and glass before assembly (which is a must) but doesn't say how. Personally I used compressed air to remove some dust as there were no smudges.
