An attempt to fix a clicking hard drive.

james -

Mi Problema

My girlfriend's hard drive started clicking... and then failed. Years of pictures and documents and no backups to be found! The horror!

I purchased this bit driver kit in an attempt to dissect my other hard drives and replace the circuit board on the failed hard drive.

Mi SoluciĆ³n

It went good... and not so good (but not bad, yet!). I tried all of the random 2.5" drives I have, but none of them were completely compatible with the drive I was trying to fix. I removed the circuit boards and the failed hard drive started spinning without clicking! Unfortunately, none of my combination of computers, wires, or external drives would recognize the drive.

Mi Consejo

I am still working on this one, but if you have a clicking, failed hard drive... not all is lost! You need to find the exact model of drive that failed (or so I believe/hope)... pop open a couple of Torx screws, swap, and cross your fingers.
