Mi Problema
My phone wouldn't charge or sync and replacing the battery didn't fix it much to my chagrin. However using the wonderful guide and quickly delivered part available at ifixit.com I was able to replace my dock connector with a minimum of fuss.

Two things which are derivatives of other people's advice. I used painters tape to hold my screws during disassembly and always went left to right on the screw removal so I would know which order to replace them in as I followed the instructions in reverse.
I also used a magnetic pickup tool to start as many of the screw in their holes as I could.
