Mi Problema
I came home to my wife telling me the PS3 has a red blinking light on it and will not turn on after the kids had watched a DVD in the console. After hitting the web and looking into the cause of the problem and possible repairs I came accross a YouTube video from iFixit showing this repair kit. I have an original PS3 and many PS 1, 2, and3 games so I didn't want to loose the backward compatibility features that are absent in the new models. Also Sony wants $150 to send the unit in for repair, so I decided to perform the repair myself.
Mi Solución
I got my kit in 3-5 days after my order and got to work on the repair at the kitchen table. Both the kit and guide were complete and accurate. I was able to finish the tear down, repair process, an reassembly in around 1.5 hours. After putting in the final screw I took my unit to the living room wondering if I just wasted 1.5 hours and $50. I plugged it it and saw the red standby light come on, I touch the power button and...SUCCESS! The unit powered up and I was able to recover my kids DVD from the drive. System is working great, thanks for the great repair guide and kit iFixit.
Mi Consejo
There is one error in the guide. The last step, step 50 tells you to finish pealing the plastic covering off of the heat sinks that you placed on the board but the picture shows them heating the board. You don't needed to heat the board again. I think there is a link error and the guide is loading the wrong image.
