Mi Problema

When I replaced battery, I did not see glue that had attached to flex circuit. The removal of old battery ripped the flex. I tried to re-solder flex, but was a lesson in futility with my solder equipment.

Mi Solución

Quite perfect. Why did I wait so long? iFixit had better prices than eBay. The used part from iFixit looked brand new, BTW.

I was amazed how close tolerances are with the plastic housing that holds the slider. At first I thought I had ordered the wrong one.

Make sure you have a #0 or #00 Phillips screwdriver to properly remove and re-tighten those little screws.

My rating of "moderate" & "20 minutes" reflects the delicate nature of the components inside the iPod classic and replacing ONLY the lock/earphone jack. I had already opened the case, which is difficult and takes about 1 hour.

My apologies for not taking pictures.

Mi Consejo

Keep track of the little screws that hold the earphone jack and slider. Easily lost.

Wear magnifiers, even if you think you have good vision.

Transparent tape ("scotch") is helpful for keeping the flex tied to case, just below the jack. Electrical tape is OK.
