Mi Problema

the computer wasn't actually broke. i just needed to finally upgrade to lion, because i am a programmer, and the latest xcode requires it. i didn't want to overwrite my existing snow leopard install, because i might have wanted to use it for awhile. and my mac originally came with a 500mb disk, so this was a good opportunity to upgrade.

i ended up making two partitions on the new 750mb disk, so that i can have one "current" partition, and another where i can dip my toe in whatever latest thing apple has foisted off on us, so i can decide if i like it or not.

Mi SoluciĆ³n

i have done at least eight hard drive swaps in the older style aluminum macbooks. i had one, my best friend had one, word got around that i could do this so i ended up doing swaps for friends of friends, and so on. but this was my first drive swap in a new unibody style macbook. on the whole, i'd say it's a little bit easier to get into the unibody machines than the older aluminum ones.

Mi Consejo

getting the back cover off a unibody mac was kind of hard. and putting the screws back in afterwards was also a bit awkward. it feels like they go in at a different angle than i was expecting.
