Mi Problema

I fell asleep on the couch one night (as I often do) with my MacBook, iPad, and a full glass of Ginger Ale resting on the side table. Around 3am, I let out a huge stretch and knock the ginger ale all over my Macbook Pro and part of my iPad. I immediately shot up and started to dry them both off. The iPad, was lucky. I spent the next hour (or until about 430am) looking up mac blogs and seeing what people had done in this situation. Turns out, I got off pretty lucky, because other than some super sticky keys and the lights underneath them not working, the computer was fine. All the stories I was reading online were of people spilling far less liquid than I and completely frying the logic board. I tried to remove the super sticky keys individually and soak them in alcohol, soapy water and even took q-tips to the upper case, but the keys remained super sticky. The ginger ale would not go away.

Of course, apple care doesn't cover liquid spills, but I decided to make a genius bar appointment anyway. They told me they could fix it, but it would be $800. That's when I logged on to ifixit and saw the part for only $300. I watched the video and ordered the uppercase then enlisted the help of my computer genius brother-in-law.

Mi SoluciĆ³n

Once we actually got started, it went pretty well. I specifically asked my brother-in-law if I needed to order the tools listed on ifixit.com and he said he already had them, so no need. He was wrong. We spent the first two hours driving around to multiple electronics stores looking for this one tool (tri-wing Y1). When we finally found it, we went back and the whole thing took about 4 hours (we stopped a couple of times to eat).

Mi Consejo

Order the tools listed on the website. It will save you a lot of trouble and they are not that expensive!!
