Grandpa's iMac was TOO SLOW! I convinced him to buy a Samsung 1Tb EVO.

Very smoothly. The video cable was a little tricky. I was able to get a little more wiggle room by moving the LCD closer to the foot of the computer while working with it.

After taking apart the computer, I used my old Mac Pro to replicate the internal stock hard drive to the new SSD using Carbon Copy Cloner. Fast and easy. Once the replication was done I reassembled the iMac with the new SSD. Also - don't forget a passthrough cable that includes the hard drive thermal sensor! Also I had bought a 2.5" to 3.5" SSD mounting tray, which made it easy for me to mount the SSD in the space where the original hard drive had been. No double-sided tape!
