iPhone tear-down adventure!

Michael Foy -

Mi Problema

The power/sleep button on my iPhone 4 decided to stop "clicking" when pushed. It would still register a connection and work correctly, but I missed the tactile feedback.

Mi SoluciĆ³n

I had found this site a couple of months ago when I was looking for a solution, and I thought it was the coolest thing ever. In the history of ever. So I asked for the tool set for a holiday gift so I could fix my own iPhone and other small electronic devices.

I found the guide and figured that it couldn't be too hard. Things went smoothly until just after I got to the point where I had to pop off the "don't mess with this or we will never ever service this device again!" sticker. Once I did that I had a sharp wave of panic in case I couldn't get it back together again. But things went smoothly and I got it back together again.

Unfortunately, I could not diagnose and fix the issue with the button click, but the experience was well worth it.

My next adventure will be to tackle my Logitech Harmony remote--for which there is no available guide, so I will be a true trail blazer.

Mi Consejo

Take pictures! I forgot...

Unlike larger devices, the screws used here are all various different sizes, so make sure you have a good system for storing and identifying which screw goes where. I placed the screws in a pattern on the table that matched the machined holes in the phone.
