SSD optical drive replacement on 21.5" Mid 2010 iMac

craig -

Mi Problema

Replaced built in optical drive with 250GB SSD drive. System was running really slow.

Mi SoluciĆ³n

It went well. Followed instructions and was pretty straight forward. Ran into a few hurdles....The screws can easily fall down into the case, which was very annoying. There is also a cable that has a very sensitive connector and after it had already ripped off, I read that you have to be very careful. Luckily nothing broke off. Putting it back was really tough as well.

Mi Consejo

The only real thing that got me was the fact that no where in the instructions does it say you need to buy the adapter to fit the SSD into. Luckily I purchased one via Amazon and it arrived super fast. iFixIt also has one but it is pricy. I'm sure it's a well made one, but no one will ever see it.

There is also no info on how to ensure that TRIM is enabled. I had to go searching for a tool that did it. Cost me $10 for a simple application.
