While playing NCAA Football my PS3 shuts down and I get a blinking yellow light of death. I did not know what this was at the time it happend. I did some research on the internet and came across a forum talking about the yellow light of death and various ways of repairing it. I could sent it to Sony and wait 4-6 weeks and pay up to $180 to repair, I could try the hair dryer repair, but that's only a temporary fix or I could repair it myself. I have a 60 GB PS3 that you can no longer find at a resonable price. The new PS3 does not play PS or PS2 games. After looking at video from iFixit.com, I said to myself $39.95 + tax for a self repair? I decided to try it. I ordered that kit and received it within 5 days.
Once I received the kit I went online to iFixit.com and downloaded the repair manual. I followed the instructions step by step. I took me about 2 1/2 hours to complete the repair. I took my time and made sure I was careful with everything. I got a little freaked out when some of the sealant went on the board. I cleaned it off and put it back together. I let my PS3 sit for a couple of hours before turning it on. My PS3 started right up!
I was very happy with the repair. The only thing I would do before ordering this product is making sure it not a power issue. After ordering the kit I saw that if it was power issue you could not repair it on your own. The best way to determine its not a power issue is to try the hair dryer repair first. I know it sounds funny but it does work. I tried the hair dryer repair while waiting on kit to arrive and was able to remove disk from PS3. All in all I was very happy with iFixit repair and would recommend it to anyone.
