Mi Problema

My 6 yr. old imac's hard drive bit the dust, but not without a couple of gasps. The gasps allowed me to research similar symptoms here, resulting in my ordering a new 1 TB hard drive and diving from the Leap of Faith platform.

Mi SoluciĆ³n

The repair went quite well! I took the imac apart prior to receiving the hard drive, as it was totally deceased and I had nothing to lose. Cracking the "shell" of a computer like an imac was actually very interesting. I was surprised at how well the case was constructed. I did encounter a stripped T6 screw, which was not accounted for in the repair guide, but I used good ole Tennessee know how and electric drilled that sucker loose! Overall, the repair went without issue, and it took me far less time to replace the hard drive and re-assemble the imac as it did to break it down. I cannot describe how good it felt to have the apple re-appear at startup and not the folder with a question mark!

Mi Consejo

My only advice would be to follow your intuition about your sense of competence. I had never done anything like this, but just figured spending $125.00 would not be the end of the world if it didn't work out....it worked out. I would recommend that you buy a Torx Screw bit kit. There are tiny little screws that require T6 thru T10 sized bits to remove them.
