iPhone 3GS won't connect to cell network after battery replacement

I just replaced the battery in my 3GS following ifixit directions. Everything else works fine but the phone will not link up with my cell provider and only shows "No Service". It connects to my wifi network but no phone service.

I opened it back up and double-checked all connections, reassembled it, re-inserted the SIM card. Still no service. Tried a hard reset. Still no service.

Any ideas?

Try setting the date and time manually, SettingGeneral/Date&Time/SetDate&time/TimeZone. I experienced the same problem you did after I replaced my battery. I noticed the time and date was wrong so I manually set it, once I did that the problem was corrected. Hope this helps.

Is the iPhone reading your SIM Card? Settings App>General>About>ICCID # is it there?

Toggle ON and OFF Airplane Mode, several times, leave it on. Settings App>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings.

Before opening and during repair of iPhone 3GS make sure it is OFF.

Check your work again, #7 connector can seem to be snapped into place but it is not. The two gold prongs near #7 must be in contact with the back case metal bezel.

If everything is good, hopefully you did not dislodge or damage the blue inductor on the logic board near the gold prong.

Thanks for the suggestions Brad. It is reading the SIM card. Toggled AP mode several times - no effect. Tried resetting network settings. Same.

I disconnected #7 and reconnected it again to be sure that it was connected properly. The two gold prongs are there and appear to be in contact with the body of the phone. Is there any other way (other than visual) to confirm that they are touching?

I don't think that I did anything to the blue inductor that you mentioned. Everything went fine on the battery replacement so I didn't have to force anything so I wouldn't think that it is damaged.

Any other ideas I can try?

Thanks Brad for the hint with the ICCID. I am have a similiar problem right now. But I believe it's OS6 related. I had about 5 customers already since the release of OS6 with the "searching..." for signal problem. and if you remove the SIM it still says "searching..." resetting the network settings didnt work. Only a restore from itunes works.. hope they'll release iOS 6.1 real soon...
