Are there pins for MicroSD support on the Nexus 7?

Looking at the motherboard I am curious if the Nexus 7 supports MicroSD either through GPIO or dedicated pins.

Would make for an interesting hack if one wanted to expand their storage space post-purchase.

The bottom right 4 pins are connecting the Mobo to the docking pins which can see in Step 12.

The top 24pin array is typical layout for smtc connector so not likely for a hidden Micro SD socket no go :(

I'm not sure if I would call them pins, but at the lower right of the motherboard in this picture you can see some unused contacts. What they're for and what they can be used for is beyond me.

Those are external pogopins for an upcoming dock, I believe?

Quite what additional functionality they'll offer however, I'm unsure.

according to me adding a microsd card slot or somethin' would be a little harder for everyone to keep up with but u sure can exchange the kingston internal memory as you see here in the lower left corner:

http://guide-images.ifixit.net/igi/YhgLG...

MAybe we can replace it with our own 64gig version....

That would be once and for all and we will be having a monster storage capacity

I felt it too.....

Just postred if someone might be able to do it but yup google is a major brand.

They won't let their devices get easily hardware hacked........

Hope ASUS made a transformer pad with just the saem feature and price but with a sd slot...

actually, the Nexus series is easily hacked, because it's a development device to some extent, and can have a bootloader unlock done fairly easily too

these ICs are BGA and difficult to replace with equipment. Sorry but impossible to DIY these days. Even then there is no guarantee the extra memory is going to be addressable from the software without some firmware hack. Let's just hope Google managed to do what this was suppose to do.. challenge other manufacturer's to outdo them in feature and price

Actually, on the original Asus MeMo 370T, the bottom edge of the unit had a micro USB, micro HDMI and a TF slot.

I am assumming the 24pin connector that is missing from just to the right of the memory chips is for the HDMI and TF card daughterboard.

Also, CN3 at the top of the unit is a 24pin connector for the missing 8NP autofocus camera module. Anyone able to dig up the part number of that camera? There is already a mounting area in the metalic frame of the tablet and the NFC antenna was designed for the camera as well. Hmmmm....

If you have ROOTED your Nexus 7 suggest you look at Juiced 5 in 1 connection kit or the 4 in one and /or a micro Usb to Usb adapter and software stickmount , ES File Explorer, and Nexus Media Importer. Not internal storage but portable... I tried the 4 in 1 but got the 5 in one it works better on Nexus 7 the 4 plugs in but is upside down and not really practical with Nexus7 in the Poetic Bluetooth keyboard case or bare on a table it sits lower and raises the N7 up slightly straining the connectors Bad CESS to plug life of internal connector. Case works Great BTW just allow time for the KB to connect it is bluetooth not wired. and it turns on and off the Nexus 7 with that Magnetic sensor in the tablet face. No conversion to HDMI support in Nexus 7 so Till a software mod comes along the HDMI on the Juiced 5 in 1 just taunts you...

The Fuhu Nabi2 has almost the same specs with a few exceptions. Nabi2 has lower screen resolution, an SDHC slot, miniHDMI, and no GPS. I bought it for $130 at Walmart on black friday.

But it does have a 7inch screen, Tegra3, 2MP camera, 1GB ram.

all very well providing you dont mind an unsightly adapter sticking out of its base that will smash to pieces on the slightest impact.
