DSC H200 image partially obstructed

Hi,

When I turn on my DSC H200 I get the "Turn the camera off and on" message. I can get past this by pressing the "DISP" button twice and then zooming in slightly. Once the DISP menu disappears I can operate the camera as normal EXCEPT there is a black crescent on the right hand edge of the image which reduces as I zoom in further, and disappears at around 3 to 4 times zoom (image attached)

It looks like it might be something askew inside the lens. This camera was purchased new and has had very little use (due to this issue). It has never been dropped and is stored in the original packaging

Can anyone shed some light on this issue, or can anyone please advise how to dismantle the lens for inspection?

This is at 1.0x zoom: dark crescent obscures right side of image.

At 1.6x zoom crescent is only showing in the right hand corners of the display.

At 7.0 times zoom the crescent is almost gone.

Recorded images display the same as what is seen on the LCD., even when saved and viewed on a PC.

Try a hard reset and check if that resolves the problem.

Remove the batteries from the camera and then press and hold the Power On/Off button for 30 seconds and then release. Reinsert the batteries and check.

Do pictures, taken by the camera and then downloaded and viewed on a computer show the same problem on the right hand side?

If not it may be a problem with the LCD screen and not the CCD image sensor or the lens.

Thank you very much for your reply.

I tried the Factory Reset on the camera's menu, also tried removing batteries and SD card and holding the power button for one minute. The issue persists.

I think the issue is something that has dislocated inside the lens assembly. I can zoom in with the optical zoom and the crescent moves off the LCD display. This leads me to believe that both the CCD sensor and the LCD display screen are okay. Pictures taken with the crescent showing also show the crescent on a PC or laptop.

Based on what I have tested I believe that it is a partial physical obstruction inside the lens, possibly from a misaligned or loose component.

I will start looking at local camera repair shops for their evaluation also.

Do downloaded images show the problem you never said?

Hi Jayeff,

The crescent is showing in images that I download to my PC. If I zoom the camera in to about 3 or 4 times optical zoom the crescent moves off to the right until it is no longer visible.
