Would else besides the dock connector could be wrong?

I can neither charge the iPhone nor connect it to iTunes. Nothing happens when the phone is connected to a USB/charging cable. So, I replaced the dock connector with the entire assembly, and the phone simply does not have a usable dock connector. Speaker works fine.

What else could/should I be looking at that might be a relatively inexpensive replacement? Thanks...

I am having the same problem with my iPhone 3G. I've opened it to replace the headphone jack and, after putting it all back together, two things are broken.

1) The proximity sensor, which I'll order a new one.

2) The dock connector will not work. iTunes will not see my phone and it will not charge, but plugging it in while the phone is off will turn it on.

Did you ever find out how to fix it?

Thanks for your reply. I've tried the two I have in my house so far.

I should add that when the iPhone is off, connecting a cable turn it on. That is the only evidence I have the dock connector is connected to the logic board besides the speaker and mic working just fine.

I've got the exact same problem that you describe. I was told that the logic board might have been water damaged on mine, though I'm not sure how that happened. Is there a red dot in your headphone jack that might indicate water damage? Or when you opened the iPhone, were the stickers on the motherboard tinted red?

Many people do not realize that any time you have a fluctuation of 8*F or more between 2 surfaces that condensation forms. Taking your electronic device outside into 30*F and then bringing it to your 70*F home can cause water damage to the device.
