MacBook Air 1st gen not powering, no charging light

Hi,

I have a 1st gen MacBook Air here that doesn‘t turn on anymore, but the battery will most likely be dead. But also when I‘m connecting the power cable it doesn‘t turn on and the light on the power cable is always off.

Does that mean the charger is broken or is it more likely that something else is broken?

Mmm… Besides trying a second charger, I would make sure the MagSafe connectors are clean of dirt build up which can interfere with the electrical connections. If the systems connector is in bad shape you can replace it following this guide MacBook Air Models A1237 and A1304 DC-In Board Replacement the needed DC-In Board is getting hard to find. As it does sound like you never replaced the Battery that is also on the shopping list MacBook Air (Original-Mid 2009) Battery

Before you make the jump in repairing the system, keep in mind this system can’t support newer Apps both because of the macOS it is limited to and the limitations of the hardware with a very limited CPU (Core 2 Duo processor), RAM (2 GB) and either a 1.8” 80GB PATA HDD or 64GB PATA SSD.

Yeah, that‘s the thing I don‘t want to invest much in this old hardware. But I will see if I can find a second charger to test somewhere.
