Western Digital My Passport Ultra es un dispositivo de almacenamiento portátil USB 3.0 con capacidades desde 500 GB hasta 5 TB.

My Passport 4Tb has a micro USB3 AB connection that burned. Fixes?

I have a My Passport WD40NMZW 4TB drive. The USB3 micro AB connection has burned. I want to repair so at the least I can extract the data.

If your socket burned that would point to excessive current into the Passport.

If that is the case, the drive is likely toast. There are a few tear down videos on YouTube.

I would open it up and put the drive into another external case instead of trying to replace the socket.

However, you need to closely monitor it, because if something is shorted in the drive it will continue to draw large currents.

I'm not sure what caused the connector to burn. I cleared away melted plastic and plugged in a different cable. The hard drive spun up and data could be read. The connection did not overheat but because the cable could no longer be pushed in all of the way I decided to stop using the drive and pursued seeing if the connector could be replaced. I ordered a similar drive with a damaged disk so I could swap the PCB with my drive. That was easy enough but the drive did not spin up. Although I matched models, and the PCBs are identical looking, there are apparently chip differences.

Now I'm looking at swapping the 10 pin USB3 connector but I've never worked on a board with surface mounted chips so I'm pausing and looking for ideas.
