MacBook Pro mid 2014 won't boot, but makes a little clicking noise

Hello,

I'm writing to you because I wanted to turn on my MacBook, but it wouldn't turn on. As it had been a few months since I turned it on, I plugged it in, but, despite this, when I press the power button, nothing happens.

I did the option+command+power manipulations, the power light changed from orange to green, but nothing changes.

Even if I leave the device plugged in for several hours, the light remains orange.

The one thing I've noticed is that when I press the power button or plug it in, it makes a little clicking sound to the left of the keyboard.

The MacBook battery was changed only a few months ago without any problem. And the last time I used the MacBook, everything worked. No liquid has fallen on the Mac and the Mac has been on my desk since September (the last time I used it).

Could the problem be with the motherboard?

Problem could definitely be the board, but the first thing I would do is pop it open and disconnect the battery and see if you can get power on that way. Especially since you have done very little else between battery replacement and now. Even if you just replaced the battery, could still be a dud.

That being said, there are a lot of components in the charging circuitry around that area of the board you mentioned, so could just as easily be board components, but I would rule out battery first before endeavoring that rabbit hole.

I did wonder if the battery was the cause of the problem. I disconnected the battery and connected it directly to an outlet and the problem is the same with the little noise.

So I deduce that the battery is not the problem.

If its clicking it could be the HDD unless you have a SSD then I wouldn't know.

@nytryder26 - This model has an SSD drive so the clicking won’t be a HDD.

@danj Maybe the fans are ticking an error code?
