Can I diagnose SMC further?
Hey all, another Mac, another issue.
I just got this MacBook Air from someone who hasn’t touched it since 2015. As you can imagine, the battery’s all messed up.
Once in the U.S. again, I’m going to get a new battery. Here’s what’s odd though: when I connect the battery, the MagSafe lights up green (not horribly odd with a bad battery), but lights up amber with the battery disconnected. On every Mac I’ve ever worked with, MagSafe should ALWAYS be GREEN when the battery disconnects.
To conclude, I think this is an SMC issue. But, since this is a 2012 Mac, I can’t run Apple Diagnostics (I’ve tried every way possible). So, here’s me question: is there a way to check the SMC further? Because I would have to look at a new logic board at the point if the SMC is messed up, and not the battery (and I REALLY don’t want to replace it). Any thoughts on how to diagnose this thing would be great!
Thanks in advance!!
Here’s a couple of things:
Apple Diagnostics from internet:
Apple Hardware Test that I downloaded from GutHub:
What’s odd enough, the Apple Hardware Test actually boots on other machines, just not this one… odd.

Es esta una buena pregunta?
I have a 2012 MBA A1466 same as this one currently in for repair (Been with the technician a month already), and we are able to do the apple diagnostics here (We get the Error Cannot Load EFI Drivers and there is an issue with the SMC on it..... how come you cannot do the diagnostics?

@livfe - Yeah, the Cannot Load EFI Drivers is where I’m stuck. After conducting some research, this is some issue with the Mac’s firmware too old to connect to the diagnostics servers. And it won’t load locally either :(

@jadonlyon But Apples diagnostics was where I got the EFI driver message from. We are going to replace the SMC and check 2 MOSFETS that feed the SMC (Replace the also) and then hopefully we can get it going again. Same issues as yours, see my other topic on Error Cannot Load EFI Drivers as @oldturkey03 was assisting also.

@livfe - This is embarrassing, I’ve worked on Macs for over five years now, and I have no idea what the MOSFETS are :P
Could you explain what these thingies do?
- de Jadon Lyon
@jadonlyon Some kind of chip https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MOSFET @danj gave a few possible 'solutions' but as of yet the tech guy hasn't had time or whatever excuse as no update from them as yet..... we are on it though.
