La Nintendo 3DS XL 2015, comercializada como New Nintendo 3DS XL, se lanzó el 11 de octubre de 2014 en Japón y el 13 de febrero de 2015 en Norteamérica.

My Nintendo 3ds xl (2015 model) has both screens completly black

My 3DS XL (2015 model) will show the blue light for power, but both of the screens are black. This happened in 2019, and I got it in 2016. I have been trying to fix it for months now, and even tips from @darthmango have not helped. I just want to know if there are any other ways to fix it, or if I should get it repaired. Please help @darthmango, Im losing hope :(

Hi!

First thing first, What is tried already and what did @darthmango tried? I know that even sometimes the MicroSD card reader can give issues like this, there is no MicroSD card inside, right? If yes, then remove it and try again. Just let us know what is tried, so we can help you further! Thanks in advance!

@dan0 Everything. Safe mode, SD removal, everything. I cant do much bc I am 14, but I have tried everything I can. Do you have any other ways to help?

Is the console modded? Anyway, I'm afraid that this is motherboard related... Probably the Nintendo CPU or the Samsung NAND. My guess is that you only can fix it with a new motherboard. They are for sale here: https://www.aliexpress.us/item/325680671...

Not sure if you can fix it by yourself? Otherwise you can bring it to a local repair shop and ask them to fix it for you.

@dan0 It is not modded. I hoped not to resort to that option, because I know that repairs for the 3ds nowadays are shady, but I will try my best. Thank you all for the support :D

@jahasend Alright, then it must be something motherboard related. Sry for the bad news :(. Hopefully you will get it repaired asap again! My pleasure, here to help :)!!

Hi Jahasen, A few things could be wrong with your Nintendo 3DS XL that's causing both screens to go black:

  • Loose or Faulty Connection: The ribbon cables that connect the screens to the motherboard might be loose or damaged. These cables are fragile and can wear out over time.
  • Faulty Screen: It's possible that one or both of the screens themselves have malfunctioned.
  • Motherboard Issue: As @dan0 said, the problem could lie with the motherboard itself.

Here are some steps you can try:

  • Soft Reset: Try a soft reset by holding the power button for 10 seconds. This can sometimes clear up minor glitches.
  • Clean the Connector: If you're comfortable opening the 3DS, you can try carefully cleaning the connectors on the ribbon cables with isopropyl alcohol (50-90%).

However, if you're not comfortable opening the device yourself, it's best to take it to a professional for repair. They will be able to diagnose the problem and fix it for you.

3DSs simply won't work if the 3d slider or other things in the top half is unattached or broken. The blue light will stay on but it simply won't boot. That is one of the reasons that you can get a bottom half of a 3DS on eBay for the price of a cup of coffee. You should check whether something is broken on the top half, especially the 3d slider assembly. If there's nothing wrong with it, check the ZIF ports on the motherboard for signs of corrosion or damage. you can brush them with a toothbrush dipped in isopropyl alcohol if it is corroded inn some way, but brush them lightly since the pin connectors could be bent by the toothbrush. Wait for everything to dry before reattaching and see whether they work. If it still won't boot, then there are very possibly something wrong with the motherboard itself. Brush that with isopropyl alcohol as well, especially around the ZIF connectors, and please WAIT UNTIL EVERYTHING IS DRY before powering it on! Any bit of isopropyl alcohol that haven't evaporated could cause a serious short that would make your new 3DS a large paperweight!

The cables connecting the 3d slider assembly can be torn or worn out from the constant flipping motion of the hinges, and theoretically it could happen within a few years of normal usage. I'm almost certain that is what happened in your new 3DS, but it could also be the camera cables, or the top screen. You should probably check them carefully.
