Yeah I did I just replaced the screen and it worked. Apple was charging me 400 to replace it, but I bought a oem screen from eBay and did it myself

This can be caused by a bad hard drive believe it or not. Remove the drive and see if it will boot from your system installation DVD. For assistance getting to the correct guide, please give us the last three figures of your serial number located on the bottom of the stand.

can I boot from USB drive or do I need the disc ?
I know you can boot from an external firewire drive. I don't know if this model will boot from a USB drive.
I'm using the computer right now perfecting on another monitor being mirrored. it has lion installed I tried the steps above but still showed white screen, it shows white screen and you can hear the boot up sound. so do you think it is a LCD replacement ?

Can you discern the desktop at all? Please give us the last three figures of your serial number (located on the bottom of your stand).

Hi David. I am having the same problem now with the same iMac model. Screen is totally white but everything else is working fine. I am using the iMac via Screens (Back to My Mac & iCloud) using my wife's MacBook.
Have you resolved the problem? I am guessing it's a screen/hardware failure and needs to be repaired or replaced.
