Hi Larry,

As it turns out, you're in luck with regard to replacing the charging port on your tablet. In this case, there's a small daughter card that can be replaced easily in order to swap out the charging port for a new one. On many other tablets the port is mounted directly on the motherboard, meaning you either have to replace the entire motherboard or else have the soldering skills to dismount the broken port and solder in a new one.

If you have the skills and equipment to do the soldering, you can buy the port just by itself right off of Amazon. As far as USB port replacements go, this one is pretty standard for a micro USB port.

By far the easier route is to buy the entire daughter card and just swap that out. I know nothing about this vendor, but this is the part you're looking for. I did note that it's also available on eBay, but I don't like posting eBay listings as they are not usually around long term, so you can search for it yourself if you're interested.

In either case, there is a teardown available here on iFixit that shows you how to get to and remove that daughter card, which you'll need to do either way you go with the repair.

Step 5 is the part you're interested in. You may be able to skip Step 4, as I don't think the battery actually needs to be removed to get to the daughter card, but you'll have to use your own best judgement on that. It is, however, always advisable to unplug the battery whenever you're working inside the case.

That should give you everything you need to know to get your charging port fixed; if you have any questions, feel free to ask. Best of luck with your repair and be sure to come on back and let us know how it all turns out!

Thanks Jerry.

The daughter board in the link you provided is for a QTAQZ3.

Is the elypsis 8 QTAQZ3 just another name for elypsis 8 QTASUN1?

In "settings/about tablet" my tablet model is QTASUN1. And it doesn't refer to or show QTAQZ3 anywhere.

I'm finding both numbers all over the internet.

Please clarify if possible.

Thanks, Larry

Okay, as it turns out, these are indeed two different tablets. The QTAQZ3 is the Ellipsis 8, while the QTASUN1B is the Ellipsis 8 HD. The main difference seems to be in resolution of the display and camera. For example, the 8 has a 1280x800 TFT display, while the 8 HD has 1920x1200 IPS display.

So I do not know for sure if the daughter card is compatible, but my guess is that it may well be since the USB connector has no effect on the display or camera resolution for the two models.
