Your machine has the Nvidia GeForce 8600M GT video processor. This GPU has had a history of failure and Apple has been replacing the logic board for free for up to four years after the date of purchase. They have been known to even do the repair after this date. I would contact Apple directly and see if they will fix it for you for free.

Hello!

You can not DIY - replacing a laptop video chip is a very involved and complicated process requiring special equipment. If Apple won't replace it some have had a temporary fix by overheating the chip to "reflow" the solder.

I'm in the same boat as Bertalan. The screen on my lightly used 2007 went dark in 2013. There had already been two recalls but there was no help for me. The same issue exists today, 2015, with a recall out for 2011-2013 models. Not impressed with apple.

I just had one of this laptop with faulty Graphics, so as I do I took the logicboard out stripped all the plastic covers and put on the oven for 4,5 minutes than wait that cooled down and reassembled, push the start and voila` the screen turn on and all is working, I have done already more than 100 time and many after ten years are still working, I have two Mac pro and the first had the same work done from 6 years ago........give a try

A. power ON with boot sound no display also in external lcd

B. removing NVIDIA G84-602-A2 GPU chip

Block Image

C. after re-balling place it again in logic board

Block Image

D. used proper tools to solder the NVIDIA G84-602-A2 GPU chip w/ proper settings

Block Image

E. test before total assemble

Block Image

F. after assemble check the temperature of the GPU using istat. note: bad GPU if goes above 80 Celsius

Block Image

note: before to do this it must be properly check the RAM
