iPhone still not powering on (before and after battery replacement)

So I recently acquired an Iphone 3gs that did not power on. I do work for apple as an IOS technician, strictly firmware troubleshooting, so naturally proceeded through all the standard troubleshooting steps, home and power for 30 seconds plugged into usb-PC/Wall. After attempting the power reset I tried leaving it plugged in for awhile just to see if it was a drained battery. Cleaned the dock connector, tried different cables, etc etc etc.

A passed time of mine is replacing batteries and screens so I went ahead and broke it down and popped in a new battery. Still nada. Left it plugged in over night and the charger isn't getting warm at all. Kinda running out of ideas... I've narrowed it down to either the power IC or the dock itself. Thing about it is I can't really find any definitive way to determine if its either or outside of the fact I can't get any juice to it.

So, I was hoping somebody might be able to point me in the right direction or is it just a crap shoot with this sort of thing?

So upon further research, I went ahead and pulled out the dock connector to see if I could see anything physically wrong. I notice now that the liquid indicator has been tripped. Probably a short in the dock. Going to swap it out and see what we've got.

Good luck with the water damage inspection! Before buying a new one if you fine any corrosion on the board then just a little scrub with a tooth brush once fixed that problem for me! And change the Charger port!

Hope you sort out your problem

Also, maybe you could help me out as you work as an apple IOS technician. I just bought an iPhone 4 16GB (GSM) on 5.0.1 and replaced the screen. Everything works except when i make a phone call it says it goes straight to speaker phone but i cannot hear the person and they cannot hear me. Even when using headphones or a Bluetooth headset. Do you think it would be hardware or software and can you give me any advice. I went to an apple store but they could tell that the screen wasn't official so would not let me pay £119 for a replacement (any advice as to what i could do there as well)

I would appreciate the help!

Cobaltthegreat, I'd follow this guide to clean the liquid damage. Even so it was written for a 3G it still applies for a 3GS. After that, reevaluate. You can use a multimeter and the pinout from here to see if your phone gets power at all. Also measure the voltage on the battery points. Check the 3gs battery and charging fuses to see if you have continuity. Also, the power management chip is readily available. It is a D1755 (338S0768)made by Analog Semiconductor. Hope this helps to get you started.

Didn't work guys. I checked the moisture detectors and the logic board itself is dry. Just as dead a door nail. At this point I want to figure it out for the experience. I do have a new multimeter and I have the diagram, just not sure without a picture where I'm supposed to be checking for juice. Thanks for baring with me guys.
