Diagnosing an EMC 3099 that isn't charging or turning on

Hi everyone,

I have an A1534 EMC 3099 that doesn't turn on. It was given to me by my friend, since they couldn't use it in this state.

I have repaired phones before, but nothing more than replacing the display/battery/charging port - so nothing that required micro-soldering. The repair shop quotes $200 for the repair.

I have used the iFixit guide to open it. The charging connector seems clean, so the that shouldn't cause the issue, but on the other side of the logic board, there seems to be a blown part labeled R22.

I've managed to find 10pcs of R22 on AliExpress for $6 (link!), but I only have basic tools, like a simple soldering station.

So my questions are:

  1. Should I tunnel vision on the blown R22? If yes, what else do I need to replace it? I've read I need a smaller soldering iron tip(?), a soldering liquid(?) and a microscope (I do have that, no a professional one or anything, but it works). I do not have a hot air station.
  2. Is there anything else I should diagnose? The multimeter says 5V 0A, so it's not turning on I guess.

If you'd suggest a completely different approach, please do let me know.

Thank you!

Can you post a picture pointing out the inductor that’s damaged. As depending on which one and what the damage is you may only need to replace it. But you may have a deeper problem here as well.
