I/O ports repair on late 2015 27" iMac... Card or whole logic board?

SnuffyApple tech helped me determine that I/O ports are the problem... no type of external device can be mounted on desktop or listed in Finder

Thx SnuffyApple!

Everything from Safe Mode to reinstalling the OS was tried. Drives SD card, Flash memory, ext HD all work on Mac Studio and 17" MacBookPro.

iMac was fine 1/1/23... so 'something' happened. iMac runs fine otherwise.

Was planning to setup repair appointment with Apple... question is ... is there just a card for I/O or does it require logic board replacement?

I have done a HD replacement myself on the iMac. Viewed the logic board replacement on the IFIXIT website.

Update (03/17/23)

Additional information... all those external devices show up or are listed in Systems Report when USB is selected (USB 3.0 bus). Just don't mount.

If the hardware see the plugged in device/s that implies the issue is within the OS. But yet you state you re-installed the OS. But did you do this from an external drive? If not you merely refreshed and didn’t wipe the OS and what could be the issue.

So I would create a bootable thumb drive OS installer and booting from it wipe the drive (make sure you make a backup first!) then reinstall the OS.

Download from here the needed OS How to download macOS and follow this guide to create the bootable external thumb drive Create a bootable installer for macOS

Dan... probably need to make backups and start over, but found where I did a screen shot of the "About this Mac" back in August. At that time I was using 12.4... and didn't have any problems. Wonder if it is possible to back up to 12.4 or something before 12.6.3? I also think I saw a listing for a 12.6.4 beta. Wonder if that fixes any problems.

@snuffy99261 - I don’t think that will matter. There is no open issues like this in the Monterey builds that I can find.

If you reinstall using the Monterey installer I pointed you to I think you’ll find it will be a rev or two behind.
